Orbital

part 12

The eyes
of the world on you
and through you, reflecting
your thoughts for all the world to see
beyond itself.

Imbedded in the universe
like the movement the wind makes
on an unfurled sail
-a fallen feather-
anchored in memory.

Canvas black
-through which some giant pricked needle holes-
is the backdrop
to exercise, meditation, study and navigation,
the time lapse distance doubled
with every reception and transmission
rippling the fabric of the star chart.

Did you
watch, in your time off,
the man made satellites orbit round
which now transmit
stories and science
from one planet among many.

One never named,
nor discovered,
the first upon which
this race to the stars began.

The story
of sweat and toil
the water, and work of which
history is made

The errors
made by those who fought
and bore the cost for those who lost the war,
they will fight again, and never end
with peace

In the darkness
sing, the lights are dimmed
for night around you.
Sleep and fly as we all do
without rules,
abandoned

For
all the measures you make
hereís the space and time to take
with you, through the stars.
