SECOND THOUGHTS (8am)

Shivering slightly in the cold morning,
snow, not quite reaching me
(a peaceful blanket of the stuff
would perhaps console the pacifist within)
hiding the decomposing autumn
as the dawn breaks, and winter sets in.

Morning shines grey,
the sky bearded by clouds
wrinkles the light
managing to reflect upon me,
goose-pimpled in fleece.

Outside, the cars beep farewells,
the kids go to school
everyone is up and off...
to where now, as the day begins?

Today, hiding in the human tide,
the suicides, the B 52's,
reduced by condescending anecdotes
collected in the double glazed air.

The minutes pass,  we meet here at first light
gathering our thoughts and dreams,

as birds contest the rooftops.
