Film Making, Theatre and Poetry focusing on Sign Language and Deaf Culture in the South West Region (UK)

the SIGN HEAR project, (ongoing)
Founder, designer and administrator. Sign Hear has two main objectives:
1) to promote the use of British Sign Language (BSL) on the internet.
2) to provide an archive space for creative writing in British Sign Langauge.

This project has been resourced through 2002 by Watershed Media Center, The Learning and Skills, Council South West, and Bristol 2008.

Film Making Commission
for
Statement Media Arts Development, Bath to make a silent film for outdoor projection (Signs of Life) through Bath Adult and Community Education Service, (working with a group of Deaf adults) to be premiered at Bath Festival, 2003 (October). Funded by RNID, and Statement Media and Arts Development.

Deaf Youth Theatre Workshops working with Sandra Barefoot (Travelling Light Theatre) Deaf children, age group 5-16 years. At Kingswood Foundation, Bristol.

OTHER PROJECTS

Founding member of the Here Nor There Project, a collective of Visual Artists, Musicians, Web programmers, Performers and Poets.

Projects have included the production of Radio Broadcasts (Radio Flora, part of Balance 2000, Hannover, Germany) Film Festivals (Short Call/MiniKino, Maribor, Slovenia, 2002). Three Electric December projects (Watershed), the last of which (2001) was titled "Timepiece" and included a series of poems subtitled "Timepieces".
"Orbital: a postcard to space travel" (2001) a collaboration with web artist Neil Jenkins, in which the words of the poem Orbital arrive on screen in an order relevant to your connection and location in relation to the World Wide Web.

Published in a variety of media including: book, audio CD, CDRom, desktop poetry calendar, video, Internet publications, and websites.
Worked as a writer, poet and visual artist in Bristol since 1985, with experience in workshops, tutorials and seminars, written for stage and screen, as well as performing my own work in "readings", Live Art and other public contexts.
