LADYFEST BRISTOL FEMINIST FILM FESTIVAL: INDEPENDENT HEROINES

Curated by Lisa Cupcake and Lady Lucy and Ladyfest Bristol committee

Imagine a fanzine about independent filmmaking as a feminist issue, which turns into a night programmed at The Cube. Imagine that from this comes an idea for a film festival. Imagine an opportunity to do this because of Ladyfest Bristol, and imagine it's the first festival of it's kind to hit the UK. The reality is that Cinenova, the sole distributor of exclusively female made films, is struggling, and it is more important than ever to get a project like this off the ground. It?s happening the world over with events and projects like Hanin Elias's Fatal (Berlin), Herland (Calgary), Madcat (San Fransisco), and of course Ladyfest.

So here it is, a week of features, UK premieres, short films, video art and unique collaborations. This is the 1st Independent Heroines film festival and as long as we don't lose too much money it won?t be the last! It will also be a catalyst for a monthly Independent Heroine night at The Cube and beyond... Many thanks to all the people who have contributed to making this one amazing project

Supported by: The Cube Cinema, Beam Productions and Cinenova.

Ticketing: Ladyfest ticket holders have free entry to events Thursday - Sunday . Ticket info >>

LADYACTION

This will be a provocative yet fun exploration of the relationship between Feminism and political activism. Lady speakers will be Lousie Clarke, key mover and shaker in Bristol?s Anti War Movement, and Ladyfest Bristol organisers talking about the part activism played in putting on this festival. Others invited are The Greenleaf Bookshop (with a bookstall), Kate Rich (With BIT) Technology / art activist, and Kyra and Pru from Bristol Indymedia. Also happening will be IH's very own poster project, making posters about our own independent heroines.
