Questions 10-14

D. The activity.

15. Name the activity. Research and Development for Canalab. 16. Which actvities does it involve? Combined Arts, Visual Arts, Music. 17. 50 Word description of actvity requiring support.

Canalab is a research stage project with the aim of building a waterborne vessel (canal boat) capable of navigating the Inland Waterways of Britain with a production/exhibition/convalescence facility on board. This research aims to produce a full report and detailed feasibility study with the aim of going to a second round application for capital grant to build, run and realise the project. The second stage application would involve application to Heritage Lottery Funding as well as Arts Council South West and possibly Touring as the project would move between regions. At this stage a 'back of envelope' figure for the total build/fit/run and programme would be in the region of £200.000 A Project Planning grant is being sought from HLF to match this application.

18. Activity start and end dates. Started early 2005. End approx spring 2006. 19. Where will this activity take place? Bristol, Birmingham, London, perhaps the whole of the Inland Waterways network. 20. How many people (estimated) will benefit from the activity. The research will be conducted by myself but I estimate that hundreds of people would benefit from Canalab. 21. What are their age ranges. All ages. 22. Is project aimed at any of the following. etc NO 23. Any planned focus group ie young offenders. Possibly young people out of school and travelling/nomadic communities. 24. Details of expected results. This phase of activity 'works up' the whole idea into a form accessible and concrete enough to go into the hands of a constituted group and full funding/production. The most suitable form of organisation for the project will form part of this research. It is ideally hoped that an interesting exciting realisable and workable long-term project will emerge.

E. Other Information.
