Elin Thomas is a Bristol based artist, she was a member of both the 'Minto' and 'B.I.C.A.' groups based at Jamaica street studios, and now has a working space in the Epstein building in Easton. As well as exhibiting she has recently completed an MA in Visual Culture at Bath College of Art. Her artistic practice covers such concerns as music, sculpture, drawing and graffiti. This show however, consists exclusively of recent paintings. These paintings develop a diversity of craft and painterly activities founded primarily in the pleasures of the decorative. As a painter, Elin follows a private logic based on the challenge of creating pieces that function both as image and object. The processes of decorative art - cutting, copying, masking and stencilling provide a means of construction that enables a proliferation of resonances between style, materiality and painting.
