we
are nearly three years old.
t h e s u c c e s s s t o r y , s o f a r . . . This
little shop and gallery was just another empty city-centre
storefront until 2003's incendiary Ladyfest Bristol
claimed it to temporarily house it’s 'From
The West Coast To The West Country' exhibition (an exceptional
show of contemporary Californian art by Fawn Gehweiler,
Emily
Ryan, Gabrielle Gamboa and Saelee Oh). Rather than see it
return to being yet another empty shop on Stokes Croft,
a
brave collective of young people got together to keep it
open, and over the past year have created one of the most
vibrant,
beautiful and exciting shops in the whole of the country,
with a reputation that has spread world-wide!
The
shop re-opened in October, taking on the
ever-confusing - but intriguing - moniker of 'here' and stocking
an increasingly abundant and inspiring range of independent,
small-press and underground art, books, ‘zines, handmade-clothing,
comics, music and much more, as well as heralding an impressive
line-up of exhibitions of both local and international importance.
Over
the last 12 months here has generated an
incredible atmosphere of creativity and
excitement, both with it’s inspiring run of art shows
and it’s series of thrilling live performances, as well
as by it’s openness and enthusiasm for people to become
involved and to use the space.
