Namaste! The better educated of you will have noticed what I did there. Instead of Kumbh Mela I’ve gone for Cube Mela. “But why Richie oh Guru, why?” I hear you cry. Well it’s a good question. As some of you know one of my many roles at The Cube is as overseas development officer and recently me and Mrs Paradise found ourselves in the Raj. I took said opportunity to make connections with the rather marvellous Raj Mandir Cinema in Jaipur.
We caught a pretty amusing Bolywood movie called 3 Idiots.
I’ve helped set up a few overseas Cubes now and its always great fun meeting Indian, Japanese or German types
In the first picture Herr Hog shows off the humongus Cube in Berlin, opened as far back as 2006. Then Cube Tokyo and Cube Kyoto. Be sure to pay them a visit next time you’re there.
This week I’m trying desperatly to catch up with all the blogging I should have done, you can get all the odds on me succedding at my bookies.
So a few months ago was a fascinating evening all about the legendary book Naked Lunch. This was a follow up to another great night all to do with William .S. Burroughs in which the The Cube Orchestra scored one of Burrough’s cut up films and I accompanied some poetry on drums.
Burroughs’ films are a firm fave of The Orchestra because they have lot of moods and interesting images for us to interpret through sound. Anyway there was also some rare stuff that Ben and gang had tracked down a well as some experts talking all about it. Sady I coldn’t stay for the whole thing but Ben captured some on video.
The night was a great example of what The Cube offers to Bristol that no where else can or does. Our thanks to everyone involved and to those who joined us.
My humble apologies friends, for I am a lazy SONOFABITCH. Why the good lady Zuleika goes to a load of effort booking and organising all the cabert goodness and what do I do? Tell a few jokes and then forget FOR OVER A YEAR to post blogs of whata damn fine time was had by all. Well they say a picture tells a million stories, so I leave you with two pictures, one from Christmas 2007, where amongst others Vexkiddy, Boys and Dance and Pedro entertained us
And fun from last March with B.A.D again, The Scarlett Vixens, and more good things than you can shake a stick at:
Anyhow, The Cabaret has been going from strength to strength, do join us this Saturday for more fun.
Why it was just one month ago that we celebrated 10 years of The Cube. Just before that momentous weekend, Me and young Polly Pocket met a couple of local hacks from Bristol’s favourite paper The Bristol Evening Post. Martin and Dave turned out to be a couple of lovely chaps, Dave had even worked in an Arts theatre before and bore the scars of watching Derek Jarman’s Jubilee 3 times on the trot (there’s only so many times you need to see a skinheadbuggering someone on a Union Jack).
Anyhooo here’s what ended up in the paper:
Thanks to Eva who helped organise this.
